The Masurian Lake District or Masurian Lakeland is a lake district in northeastern Poland containing more than 2,000 lakes. It extends roughly 290 km eastwards from the lower Vistula River to the Poland-Lithuania border and occupies an area of roughly 52,000 square kilometers. The lake district was shaped by the Pleistocene ice age. Many of its hills are parts of moraines and many of its lakes are moraine-dammed lakes.
A total of 261 qualified national and multinational nominees from 222 countries are participating - more than participated in the Olympic games, more countries than are members of the United Nations!
Your votes will decide which of these 261 nominees make it to the top 77 by group categories. Live Ranking with the top 77 Official New7Wonders of Nature nominees of the week, sorted by category groups.
You have one voice, and you have seven choices. Voting for nominees will continue through July 7, 2009. Then the New7Wonders of Nature Panel of Experts, under the leadership of Prof. Federico Mayor, former Director-General of UNESCO, will review the top 77 nominees by group categories and choose the 21 finalists, to be announced on 21 July 2009. The 21 finalists will then be put to popular vote.
Voting will continue throughout 2010 and into 2011. During this time, the New7Wonders World Tour will visit each of the Finalists to allow them to present themselves to the voters across the globe.
